continue his responsibility for Federal Affairs for the present. We are in the middle of the FY07 Federal appropriations process and he is working with a number of legislators on exciting FIU projects. A new leader for our Federal Affairs will be brought on board before the beginning of the FY08 Congressional Appropriations process, this summer, so that we will have a smooth transition in our Federal Relations Activities.
Text Box: George Dambach Ph.D. has been appointed to new position of Associate Provost for Health Affairs and Medical School Planning. The university is now moving into the implementation phase of the medical school and Dr. Dambach brings more than 20 years of experience in Medical School administration to this challenge. This experience was part of the reason Dr. Dambach was recruited to FIU in 2004 and it was anticipated that he would move into a leadership role in the implementation of the school.
Medical Schools are very complex and we have major challenges to recruit leadership and faculty, to create the curriculum and Text Box: obtain accreditation, to plan and build the facilities and to form affiliations in the community for both education and clinical services associated with medical education. We are committed to an effective integration of all of our health programs into an Academic Health and Medicine program serving our community.
Dr. Dambach will assume the new position on June 1. His current position will be combined with the vacant Dean of the University Graduate School position and a national search will begin immediately for a Vice President of Research and Dean of the Graduate School.
