Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to announce the Faculty Research Support Program (FRSP) for 2007-08.. Faculty research is a primary objective of the University, and we have combined resources from the Office of Research and University Graduate School (RUGS) and the FIU Foundation to fund this year's program.

Please review this year’s guidelines carefully as the program has undergone major revisions.

The deadline for receipt of all research proposals is 5:00 p.m. on January 25, 2008.

We anticipate that award announcements will be made by mid-March 2008. If you have questions while preparing your proposal package, please contact the Office of Research at (305) 348-2494.

INTRODUCTION

The Faculty Research Support Program (FRSP) replaces the Faculty Research Awards, which was funded through the Office of the Provost and FIU’s Foundation. The FRSP will be funded by the Office of Research and University Graduate School (RUGS), and FIU’s Foundation and is intended to:

Help support areas of research and scholarship where external funds are scarce or unavailable.
Assist junior faculty in establishing new research programs with potential for future extramural funding.
Assist senior faculty in pursuing “seed” funding for pilot projects or new areas of research focus.
Promote novel, high-risk, innovative, and/or inter-disciplinary projects.
